6/10
SUMMARY COMMENT: Katy B is back and at times with a bang. Who Am I, I Wanna Be and Turn the Music Louder are definite club-ready hits that are funky and addictive. It may be called Honey, but some of the songs certainly failed to stick. However, a fair effort from an artist appreciating her club roots and experimenting with intimacy.
1. HONEY ft. Kaytranada
The title track is far from a head-banger, but offers a unique post-jamming 5 AM vibe. It is a completely stripped back track and very easy on the ears. "I'm sure you'll want to taste this honey on my skin" Katy says intimately, in what is a surprisingly sexy song.
2. WHO AM I ft. Major Lazer, Craig David
Featuring Garage king Craig David and electronic group Major Lazer, Who Am I offers infectious vocals and more laid back beats. Craig David's silky vocals fit perfectly in this nicely produced R&B track.
3. SO FAR AWAY ft. Wilkinson, Stamina MC
Starting slowly, with a similar vibe to the opening track, So Far Away suddenly sparks into life and offers classic Katy B. It was only so long before we were offered the drum'n'bass dance tent content that we were hoping for.
4. CHASE ME ft. Sasha Keable, JD. Reid
Another slow-jam, Chase Me is a sassy "Sugababes-like" offering. The rhythm is smooth and the vocals are once again seductively fit within a pulsing beat.
5. LOSE YOUR HEAD ft. TheHeavyTrackerz, J Hus, D Double E
Not quite the banger that it feels like it should be, but Lose Your Head pays homage to her clubbing roots in a surprisingly monotone way. It's more like TheHeavyTrackers, J Hus an D Double E featuring Katy B, as the featuring artists provide impressive, slick rhymes.
6. I WANNA BE ft. Chris Lorenzo
So far, I Wanna Be is the best song on the album. The song is a massive club hit and assisted by Chris Lorenzo, offers raving potential and a thirst to get up and bounce.
7. CALM DOWN ft. Four Tet, Floating Points
Here we have the pre-released single, Calm Down. The track is decent, offering interesting drums and intense strings for added effect. The arrangement is the most enthralling we've heard so far for those reasons.
8. HEAVY ft. Mr Mitch
Heavy very much speaks about a pretty shitty relationship. This slow jam offers enchanting electronic sounds, but fails to really drop at any point, something the song could be missing.
9. TURN THE MUSIC LOUDER (RUMBLE) - KDA ft. Katy B, Tinie Tempah
It should have been the summer anthem of 2015, but unfortunately wasn't released until October. Katy B's first Number 1 single, Turn the Music Louder (Rumble) offers a riveting club-ready beat, delicious vocals and an addictive verse by Tinie Tempah.
10. DARK DELIRUIM ft. Jamie Jones, Kate Simko
Dark Delirium runs with riveting harpy strings, turning into a late 80s, early 90s inspired club anthem. Calling to be rescued from her "dark delirium" of a relationship, the song offers a unique take on love anthems.
11. WATER RISING ft. MssingNo, Geeneus
In possibly the most terrifying introduction to a song I've ever heard, Water Rising offers a stripped back electronic track that signifies that the end is coming to the album.
12. DREAMERS ft. Hannah Wants
'Are we just dreamers?' is the question on this unenthusiastic club hit. At times the track has potential, but fails to go anywhere exciting.
13. HONEY (OUTRO) ft. Novelist, Geeneus
Not quite as exciting as the introduction, but 'so I made the honey for you' seems like a fitting ending to a relatively promising album. The production sounds similar to that of Love Without Tragedy, from Rihanna's album Unapologetic.
Honey is an assortment of slow-jams, nostalgic club beats and exciting arrangements. At times, the tracks fail to really go anywhere, which is disappointing because many of the songs have great potential.
